Medication Assistance Program
Almost half of all Americans take at least one prescription drug, and 17 percent take three. Many North Carolinians have trouble affording prescription drugs because they either have too little health insurance or no health insurance at all. To address this growing problem, in 2003 the NC Health and Wellness Trust Fund developed a statewide network of medication assistance programs to serve North Carolina’s underinsured and uninsured. Medication Assistance Program (MAP) helps seniors and other low-income individuals apply for the lowest-cost prescription drugs available through public and private programs. Since the program's inception in 2003, MAP has provided access to nearly $137 million worth of medications to over 85,000 individuals in the state.
